Wake Forest joins Duke's Mayo to distribute meals

Deacons Distribute Food in Winston-Salem

Volunteers from Wake Forest Athletics, including the Demon Deacon mascot, joined Second Harvest Food Bank, Duke's Mayo, and US Foods to distribute food to more than 350 families in Winston-Salem on Thursday, September 24, 2020. The event was tied in with the Duke's Mayo Classic football game between Wake Forest and Notre Dame, although that game was postponed until December.

With cars starting to line up at 4:00am, the volunteers set up the distribution center, then gathered for last-minute instructions. Cars went through the line and the volunteers loaded food into the trunk, or the pickup bed, for contactless pickup to avoid spreading the coronavirus. People received fresh milk, water, fresh fruits and vegetables, bread, and, of course, Duke's mayonnaise.
